I'm a Conservation Biologist interested in how species respond to weather extremes. Most of my work grows out of my love and interest for birds, particularly migratory birds. Growing up in Canada I could easily witness the change in our neighborhood birds as the seasons changed. My curiosity about when, where, how, and ultimately why birds move across vast distances led me to my own long-distance journey to earn my PhD at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. Upon joining the faculty at the University of Oklahoma I extended this curiosity to ask how birds respond to and recover from the region's famous severe weather. Since then, I've expanded my focus to understanding generally how such "extreme weather events" impact Nature, how this impacts people's quality of life, and how the way we are changing the world is possibly making these "unnatural" disasters.
