Dr. Thea Bechshoft is a marine mammal biologist with a Ph.D. in polar bear ecology/toxicology. So far, she has spent 15 years focusing on polar bears: studying and working in Denmark, Norway/Svalbard, and Canada; conducting polar bear fieldwork in remote locations in Greenland and Canada; publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers; and guiding polar voyages in Svalbard and Russia. During her time in Canada, Thea started volunteering for PBI in the capacity of a Tundra Connections panelist and Field Ambassador. Today, she is part of the PBI staff, focusing on polar bear research and public outreach. As part of this, she serves as PBI’s research advisor/facilitator for EAZA BearTAG. In addition, she is the author of the popular Facebook page, “Polar Bear Questions”. Thea has a deep love of nature, especially the vast and remote Arctic regions. The state of this beautiful area is vital to everyone—polar bears and humans included—and Thea is committed to ensuring that our common future includes a healthy Arctic ecosystem. Thea currently lives in Aarhus, Denmark.
